“I enter my mind, where the world is silent,
And sit awhile with the breeze.
Enjoying the time I have been lent,
As the worry inside me is eased.”
Being awake when the world is asleep,
Taunting the shadows with light.
The secrets you whisper to the darkness will keep,
Til the sharp rays of dawn degrade sibilant night.
The leaves are stirring in my heart again,
Calling me back to the world.
I smell the sun and the earth and the wind,
And the timeless touch of waters cold.
The grass fronds curl from the frigid skies,
As the sun forgets to warm the earth.
The feather-clad rise to seasonal heights,
As I find solace in a friendly berth.
I want to hear clicking footfalls on cobblestone paths
I want to smell autumn again in the skies
I want to see ornate fountains and silver bird-baths,
And laugh as the gilded time flies.
