For a moment, my veins were on fire
Alight with Your power and might.
I had been swept by the threat of the Enemy’s wings;
His beauty, his torment, his plight
You will die, he whispered to me
Very soon, and painfully.
I know not what he expected, nor
What singing fear was rebuked.
But the threats did not sting
For my heritage brings
Courage; the heartiest thing.
I SNARLED “so be it then,
I’ll die as I lived,
Shouting praise to the King!”
For He does not bow to your suffering.
I try to bathe
In the shallowest of streams;
Why I cannot
How can I serve you better, Lord, how can I earn your name
How can I be worthy of all the grace you pour on me?
You shake your head, you reach down to me
“I am everything you need.“
wander and grow, wonder and know
i’m building the spirit inside
my king and my light, my guide will decide
just what paths i will take through this life.
We bowed our heads
i raised mine, instead
the reverance stayed. but my gaze strayed
onto your face
— you cheekily waved.
i smiled in dismay
and my heart sank.
Why, contemplation leaves me low
And bitter hearts still seek the cold.
I lose myself in time and sleep
An exhausted spirit is all I keep.
So let me in to warm my feet
And sit awhile beside the flames.
At once to rest and speak in peace
Forever safe in Your embrace.
I nod my head and fire climbs high
My eyelids flicker low.
I’m no longer out in the bitter cold —
You smile and drape over me Your coat.
